Designing a Public Space – What Are the Key Elements?
Hey guys! I’ve been researching public space design, and I’d love to get some real-world insights. Whether it’s a hotel lobby, a co-working area, or a public waiting space, there seem to be so many factors to consider.
For example, how do you create a space that feels welcoming but also serves a practical purpose? Do you have any go-to design elements or materials that work well in high-traffic areas?
Would love to hear from anyone who’s worked on or studied this kind of design. Any suggestions or examples would be really helpful!

Hey! You’re right – designing public spaces is tricky because they need to be both functional and inviting. From my experience, a few key factors make a big difference:
Layout & Flow – Open spaces with clear pathways help with movement and accessibility.
Materials & Durability – Use surfaces that are easy to clean but still stylish (wood, treated metals, and durable textiles).
Lighting & Ambience – A mix of natural light, warm artificial lighting, and accent pieces makes a space more inviting.
