Dr Amber Taylor

Hello, I'm Amber, mother of two, avid knitter, a very-slow runner and a HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist. Having worked in the NHS throughout my career, I currently work in private practice alongside my role as a lecturer in Clinical Psychology supporting the development of Trainee Clinical Psychologists.

I have predominantly worked with children, young people and their families in paediatric services and education settings. I have specialities in supporting children, young people and families experiencing anxiety and low mood following a newly diagnosed, or pre-existing, health condition.

I am also experienced in offering support with any of the following:

  • School based difficulties including emotionally based school non-attendance and separation anxiety.

  • Understanding and managing behaviours that challenge.

  • Mental health difficulties for autistic young people and young people with learning disabilities.

  • Trauma

  • Panic attacks

  • Friendship difficulties

  • Low self-esteem and confidence

  • Anger difficulties

  • Sleeping difficulties

  • Stress and worry

  • Bereavement and loss

I also offer support to the network around a family including consultation, school based support or training.

I value working with you in a compassionate and collaborative way and will invest in getting to know you, and your family’s, unique skills and strengths. I strive to build a safe space for you to talk openly and hope to put you at ease as we work towards achieving your goals.

I draw on a range of evidence-based psychological approaches and interventions to support you to reach your goals. The main models and concepts informing my work are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion Focussed Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Systemic Therapy, Attachment Theory and Psychodynamic Theory.

I am committed to making psychological support as accessible as possible. If you, or your child, require any adaptations to make accessing support easier then please do get in touch to discuss different options and ideas.

I currently have in-person availability on a Wednesday afternoon in Esher and online availability on a Wednesday morning.
